Tribute to David Walker-Morgan, 1964 - 2025
It all started in Bynea and ended in Chicago
I first met Dj when I was working at Thyssen in Bynea just outside Llanelli. We had just bought the first Ibm AT in Wales. We had ordered a copy of Lotus 123 ( you had to :-)) and Dj couldn't miss an opportunity to deliver the software by hand. I met him in the foyer and I could tell he really wanted to see the machine. Why not I thought, 2 hours later he was still with us. Making suggestions, showing us articles in the seemingly endless pile he had in his bag. We lost track of each other over time. It was something of a shock to hear that a Dj Walker-morgan was installing our Sun system and he was coming in that day. It was about 10 years later and I'd moved on to be head of research for a silicon valley startup in London. We swapped tall tales and put the world to rights as old chums do. He loved the fact that my chairman and Ceo ( Tom Perkins) had Vc's Sun. Again he was a wealth of information and certainly put us all on the right path. Again we lost touch and I moved to America and became a citizen. I got an email wanting to know if we could meet up, Dj was coming to Chicago for some reason and we met up for a huge breakfast. We walked all over Chicago and Dj got to see all the sights from some computer game that was based there. We ended up walking along the lake front to the field museum and then settled down for a coffee and a chat. Again we swapped tall tales and Dj clued me in about some new tech that he was into. Again I learnt from my old chum and it seemed to me that no time had passed. He was a wonderful person and I am proud to have experienced his wisdom and kindness.
