A while back, some colleagues and I started an Employee Resource Group for Latin and
Hispanic employees and allies. It was our very first event—Carnival-themed—and we
weren’t expecting a big turnout. To my surprise, DJ showed up. Not just as a silent
participant, but in full spirit: wearing a colorful shirt with little bears on it, completely on
theme. He participated in the quiz, joined the conversation, and when it came time for pet
show-and-tell, he proudly presented… his rubber duck. One of the many fun little trinkets
from his “man lab”
—which, of course, I called his man cave just to annoy him.
